Turned a fragile, multi-step engineering workstation setup into a single click, so engineers can get to work instead of opening support tickets.
Engineers at a manufacturer needed their laptops set up exactly right before they could open a single design: settings pointing at the license server, a specific Java version, the product data management software, and shortcuts for the test and live environments. One wrong value and the design software would refuse to start.
Doing this by hand for every engineer was slow, and small mistakes kept turning into license errors and support calls. Engineers lost time, and so did IT.
Our founder packaged the whole setup in Microsoft Intune and published it to the Company Portal. The settings, the Java version the software vendor actually supports, a silent install of the product data management software and the environment shortcuts all deploy automatically. The same approach was then used for the simulation software.
Before rolling it out to the full team of about 20 engineers, it was piloted with a small group, so everyone else got a version their colleagues had already tested.
